For some years now, a comprehensive and articulated picture
has been emerging of the fundamental contribution that many
professors from the Faculty of Architecture in Naples have made
to the development of Italian design. Through an analysis of their
work, the profile of a generation of scholars is taking shape, individuals who did not simply follow existing trends but laid the
theoretical and methodological foundations of disciplines that
are now central to the design field of studies. The pioneering
work of some of the key figures in this story embraced a wide
range of areas: from industrial design to furniture, from interior
architecture to exhibition design, from museography to graphic
design, and even stage and film set design. Each of these disciplines found fertile ground in Naples to flourish, but above all,
they developed an original methodological approach capable of
combining rigor with sensitivity. These masters created a genuine school of thought, marked by an identity recognizable both
nationally and internationally. Their influence extended well beyond academic boundaries, helping to shape researchers and
professionals who carried Naples’ distinctive “know-how” into
the wider world, along with the ability to transform tradition into
innovation while maintaining a strong connection to a specific
territory
