We all owe a lot to Renato De Fusco, as a scholar and university
professor, but also an intellectual more than attentive to the dynamics of society. As a scientific community, therefore, we should
“repay” him, not only to honor his work, but to understand
something more of what we have sown so far and what we leave
to those who will come after us. In the reconstruction and development phase of the country, many personalities from the world
of architectural historiography have taken turns. Some come
from the world of art history, others from universities of architecture, others work as planners on both the architectural and urban
planning fronts, and still others take on institutional political
roles. But what was De Fusco’s role in this context? The analysis
of his intellectual activity shows how there is always a continuous integration of history, theory, criticism and design in him.
